Day 12

This is the most expensive meal in Gothenburg we were told. This is the king sandwich. Now, I’m adventurous but I simply did not enjoy this. This was rye bread toasted and topped with spinach, hard boiled eggs, ALOT of mayonnaise, a mountain of shrimp, pickled red cabbage, sweet cucumbers, and caviar with a lemon on the side. I’m giving this a 5/10 because of the mayo, there was just way to much to even enjoy it.

Smela is absolutely divine. This is a Swedish pastry filled with vanilla creme and an almond paste within. I thought of it as a pastry sandwich with powdered sugar on top. 10/10 and pairs well with coffee for fika.

There was so much going on in this appetizer platter. We had prosciutto, sopressata, and sort of beef that were all equally delicious. The cheeses were brie and parmesan and paired olives and lingonberry spread. 8/10 simply because I don’t like olives that much and the parmesan didn’t fit well I thought.

You can’t screw up bread but the main reason why I threw this on here was because of the bowl. This bowl was actually a towel folded into a bowl shape. I was blow away by how impressive this was! 10/10 for creativity

So I feasted on a McFeast today at McDonalds and a Deluxe Caramel McFlurry. Holy moly ladies and gentlemen, this was a double garden burger with a caramel and toffee ice cream with waffle cone bits. A healthy but sweet lunch after curling today. 10/10 perfection!
Day 11

On our last open dinner we wanted to find a new place on the streets so we stumbled across Brewers Beer Bar. This is an artisan pizza place that serves the most amazing pizzas I’ve had in a long time. Chicago style still holds a special place in my heart but this came pretty close in taste. This was a hand tossed crust, with marinara, shredded provolone, a mozzarella block center, roasted paprika, minced garlic, baked tomato and basil leaves pizza. 10/10 since it reminds me of home!

Coffee is a personal favorite of mine and I thought why not be adventurous with it today. I got a “Chokolatte” while we were out and about today and it didn’t meet my expectations. This is a hybrid of candy and coffee, two notable characteristics of Gothenburg. 7/10 for this one honestly, no chocolate taste just very bitter.
Day 10

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the El Maco. This is something America needs on their menu. This was a 9.9/10 only because it was a little messy and fell apart towards the end. It was chicken, tomato, a barbecue salsa sauce, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and bacon.
Day 9

This was a combination dish of lamb, pork, salmon, and chicken. 9/10 for under seasoning on a few of the meats. The two sauces were great, but JJ ordered everything so I don’t the specifics for every dish I only know the meats.

This was a spiced salmon dish. I’ll give this 9/10 for it being seasoned well and the sauces to save the day. The side of rice was dry so that is its only downfall.

This was a seasoned and fried catfish dish and I must say…this was the best of the dishes. Both sauces paired well with this dish, one sweet and the other tangy. This particular dish deserves a 10/10.

I’m giving this a 5/10 for its simplicity and lack of creativity. This was just a grilled shrimp with dry rub. The flavors were all there but when I think of Himalayan food I don’t think this was anything special.

These were spinach, feta, and artichoke pot stickers with the same sweet sauce as the previous dishes. A little over cooked so I’ll give this an 8/10, but other than that it was fine.
Day 8

This was the kickstart to my morning, Coca-Cola coffee essentially. A little underwhelming but it was a nice attempt. This tasted like a bitter Coke so I’ll give it a 7/10 for the mere fact that it got the job done of waking me up.

This was “burger” 1 of 2, this was a traditional beef patty with bacon, tomato, pickled red cabbage, and goat cheese. The ketchup was a personal touch and I would recommend for any burger. The fries were little under salted but ketchup saved the day as always. 9/10 for the fries lack of salt.

“Burger” 2 of 2. This was a fried chicken sandwich with Caesar dressing, roasted onions, Swiss cheese, bacon, romaine, and diced tomato all on a brioche bun. The chicken was well seasoned and pairs perfectly with a falcon lager, a so called “Gothenburg classic beer”. 10/10 in my book.
Day 7

This is a fika dish that has a coconut outer covering with a rich fudge lower layer. This was a little too rich for my tastebuds so I’m giving this a 6/10

This was a sweets filled day and the lunch dessert was crepes topped with lingonberry and blackberry jam and whipped cream. This was a nice touch to the day but I’ll give this a 9/10 because I got way too many treats today.

This was a pea and pork sausage soup with prawn and pepper salad. The soup was fine and the meat had a nice taste, but the salad was definitely over seasoned. The prawns themselves were fine but the peppers within were very over powering. This is an 8/10 for me.

And the last sweet today was a melted peppermint sugar cookie with espresso. This was VERY sweet but the coffee evened it all out. Espresso is very strong and bitter and the cookie is very sweet, so the two together are great but separate…not so much. A 9/10 for this one.
Day 6

This a sour cream ice cream, yes you read that right. It was to die for, it had an almond cake with grated mushroom, cloud berry sauce, star anise, and puffed rice. 11/10

This was reindeer with fermented beets, red onion, roasted kale, and a rich puree with I did not catch the name of. For a first time having reindeer, I must say not the best of the four dishes. 8/10 for the meat inconsistency.

10/10 for beets and horseradish mayo, herbs, bread crumbs, apple leather and pistachios all mixed together. Try apple leather by itself, you’ll thank me later.

This was a dish that I created tonight at dinner with my team, and we didn’t do too bad of a job. This was Arctic Char topped with a potato cream sauce paired with buttered potatoes, rye chips, herbs, well seasoned onion rings, a mystery berry, and pickled shallots with caviar within. I say we deserve a 9/10 for this one.

Talk about top notch cafeteria food. This was pork tenderloin topped with a Tuscan sauce with a side of seasoned potatoes and an oven roasted tomato with basil and mozzarella. I’ll give this a 9/10 simply because the potatoes were a little dry.
Day 5

My meals were fairly simple today. Breakfast was coffee and toast and lunch was cod and potatoes. I knew for dinner I had to try something different than what I’m used too. Tonight we kept it simple to a certain degree, it was pizza. This particular pizza was a little different than what I used too. This was a thin crust pizza layered with garlic butter, mozzarella, chives, prawns, and lemon. It was baked to perfection, but there was one part of it that did not fit. I was recommended to put lemon on top, and I regret to inform that it was not worth the hype. Without lemon 10/10, with lemon 7/10.
Day 4

Dinner was AMAZING, good lord. It was my first trying lamb and I loved every bite. The dish was topped with feta cheese and side pairings of potatoes and spinach and arugula salads with red wine dressing. I have historically never been a fan of tzatziki sauce so no bad reviews there. You would expect variation in food reviews but everything I have eaten so far has been fantastic so far. 10/10

Gothenburg University cafeteria food blows Carthage’s food away. The food was prepared before my eyes. What you’re looking at is pork with mixed vegetables over white rice topped with a red wine sauce. It also apparently goes well with Red Bull because everyone was handed one upon entry as a beverage for the meal. Not quite at the tier of dinner, but respectable. 8/10

Coffee is my weakness. The reason why I chose this for a review was simply because of the cream. Coffee will always get a perfect score in my book, I just really needed to show the creamer carriers.
Day 3

Not going to lie, Swedish meatballs are a little underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong the dish was good, but I was expecting more. The meatballs were drenched in gravy and seasoning with a side pairing of mashed potatoes, sweet and sour pickles, and what tasted like lingonberries. The meatballs were fair sized and the gravy was great but I was expecting more for some reason. The pickles were definitely an odd ball choice for a side. I’d give this one a 7/10 for expectation and taste, and 8/10 for presentation.

Today was a high activity day with lots hiking around one Sweden’s beautiful island’s. After a long day, we rested at Karlsson’s Garage for appetizers and Swedish meatballs. I have a special place in my heart for sweet potato fries. I was blown away by the dish because of the dipping sauce it was paired with, a creamy aioli. A FIRM 10/10 for this amazing appetizer. The flavors and paired sauce were beyond comprehension.
Day 2

Today my first full meal started around brunch/lunch time with a cinnamon roll unlike any other. The Swedes definitely know what they’re doing in terms of pastries. Their Cinnamon rolls are bigger than my head (that’s a big head) and are sprinkled with what tasted like diced up sugar cubes. A great pairing was coffee, and I highly recommend dipping the cinnamon roll in like a milk with Oreo’s. Definitely an 11/10 meal!

This was my first on my own dinner for the trip, and I had a craving for fish and had a not too bad dish. I had the classic fish and chips from a fishing city. I’d give this meal an 8/10 simply for the tartar sauce. They sold me on everything but the sauce, just a little too creamy for my liking.

I finished my night off with crepes that made were made before my eyes and they were to die for. My particular crepes were Nutella, banana, and coconut filled. Now, every thing was great and all but the part that threw me for a loop was the coconut. I tried something new and it didn’t really let me down. I give this a 9/10 simply for the coconut.
Day 1

This was my first purchase upon landing. I got it because of the label, definitely gave me a good laugh.

First meal was at the Pasta Haus, I dared to be different. and got a ribeye steak. It came with potato wedges and two very good sauces, béarnaise sauce and a smokey barbecue sauce that were both excellent. This was a 10/10 arrival meal.

To finish off my night, I had kladdkaka. This was a flourless cake that had the texture of a brownie with vanilla icing on top with whipped cream on the side. I highly recommend getting this dessert warm. 9/10 overall.
